According to Eric Evans, the Vice-President of the American Chestnut Foundation and the Plant Breeder, The Maine Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation injected live blight fungus into the trees at Highmoor Orchards to start the blight-resistance evaluations in 2009.  They culled out all but the best two-three trees in each of the twelve breeding lines in 2011.  This year the Maine Chapter will harvest the first crop of intercross nuts for planting into their seed orchards.”
