It is not too difficult to imagine what the property, now known as the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farm, would look like if it were not for the foresight of individuals like Ruth Howard and Mort Mather in the 1970’s.  Laudholm Trust was incorporated in March of 1982.  It became the driving force in the creation of the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve.  With the assistance of its 1700 members, Laudholm Trust has provided the critical monetary and in-kind support over the years to assure that the land will be protected and that the property will be a resource for research, education, preservation, and stewardship programs.
