Hussein Muktar’s Farm at
  Packard-Littlefield Farm

Twenty-eight-year-old Hussein Muktar is one

busy man!  He and his wife, Hawa Issack, have

six children.  Hussein came to the United States in 2004.

While growing up in Africa, Hussein learned how to farm. In 2008, he joined NASAP’s

training program and many people rely on him since he serves as an interpreter.   He is fluent in English, and two Somali dialects - Mai-Mai and Af Maha.  He is employed as an Outreach Coordinator with Cultivating Community providing translation, technical assistance, and educational opportunities to refugees who are establishing farm businesses in Maine.

Hussein is determined to be a farmer for the rest of his life and he aspires to own his own farm in the Lewiston area someday. He hopes to increase the amount of CSA shares that he presently manages.  He delivers fourteen CSA shares in the Lewiston area.  He is looking to

increase his CSA shares in Portland, Kennebunk, and the Lewiston-Auburn area.

He will deliver CSA shares to a new location

if there is a group of eight shares at that location.
